Automatic nesting is used in wood industry widely, both cabinet/furniture machining need the nesting to optimize the layout and save material. 

For cabinet machining, almost all parts are in rectangle shape, both panel saw machine and router machine could be used to machine the parts.

For furniture machining like sofa, most parts are in free shape. True shape nesting are necessary to improve the material utilization.
